Exploring form finding and panelization techniques, a
floating ring shaped installation is constructed between two surfaces. The
panels are based on optimized hexagonal grids (kangaroo) of varying densities
to maintain an equally distributed load along the entire surface (karamba).
Earlier prototypes were modified after resolving connection details and testing
materials. Hexagons of different sizes are optimized to populate the surfaces
in varying densities that correspond to the curvature of their surface and
interlock to achieve a structural role that support the form. High density Poly
Ethlene sheets were used as a final material to be constructed and displayed at
the UC Berkeley.
