Caterpillar is a set of components that are being developed into a plug-in that
provides a set of tools for 3d printer control using the rhino/grasshopper
interface to generate 3d printer gcodes. Caterpillar was initially developed
during a computational geometry seminar at UC Berkeley with an initial goal to
manipulate 3d printer gcodes and provide the ability to 3d print on existing
objects. A series of visualization components also aloow for transfering existing
gcodes into rhino geometry and visualize the printing process digitally. In
parallel, the set of tools in Caterpillar were tested for research purposes for
multiple axis ceramic 3d printing using a home made Liquid Deposition modeling
3d printer with a pneumatic extrusion system.
